Scan for Malware

Apply Windows Updates and "hotfix"

Download all available Windows updates from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. If the problem is still not corrected after updating, make sure you have installed this hotfix from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894391

The above update from Microsoft typically resolves most Generic Host Process for Win32 Services errors. If the hotfix still does not solve the problem, it is advised that you perform a repair installation of Windows. To do this, you will need the Windows XP installation CD.

Repair Installation of Windows XP

Take these steps to repair a damaged installation of Windows XP.

  1. Insert the Windows XP installation CD

  2. Restart the computer

  3. Press any key to boot from the disc

  4. The next screen will be a blue screen. This is normal. Press Enter to proceed.

  5. Next is the license agreement. Press F8 to proceed.

  6. Select the installation you want to repair and press the R key.

Follow the steps provided after the installation to finish the first time set up. Your personal files will be preserved but Windows system files will be replaced with the original versions. After you have logged in following the installation, download and install all Windows Updates.
